My only gripe with it is size, it's just enough larger than FP and Amprobe that it makes it clunky. It does it all, except it doesn't do power, but aside from that it's an absolutely fantastic meter. One meter that I used that really, really surprised me was a Klein CL450. I actually had a used beat up one for a while and loved it, but didn't care for the size, so when I upgraded I went to the ones above. But, from a usability standpoint, it's great.

I used a couple of UEI meters and they're ok, but not up to the standard of FP and Amprobe. The things that drive me crazy are some meters continuity beeper is almost silent, some have crappy displays. The SC480 is my do all well meter, but I just for some reason prefer the Amprobe 51. It's a fast, awesome meter has a loud beeper, a fantastic display, and the one that's in my service bag all the time.Įveryone seems to have a favorite, and I get that, I'm no different. It doesn't do millivolts, but does do DC microamps. However, I like the Amprobe ACD-51-NAV better, it just seems right for the job. It also will do millivolts and DC microamps. I do like FP meters, specifically the SC440 and SC480, the latter of which does phase rotation and KW, KVA, KVAr and PF, pretty awesome meter. Not a Fluke fan, simply because they don't have their act together when it comes to HVAC. I’m sure there are applications where it would be good to have but only you will be able to determine if that is an application that you will come across. I’ve never had a need for phase rotation, it’s easy enough to change so I just sort it out on start up.

Others prefer reliability and consistency and pay more for that to get the added safety that results but they lose out on some features. Some don’t care that they have to replace it every year or two because they are cheep enough to throw away and they enjoy the additional features while it’s alive. They have different standards as to what is ok and what is not. You will find everybody has an opinion on this topic here. I pull out the DMM when I need more precise measurements or other functions. They are small enough of a meter that it can do that very comfortably. I use a clamp that I keep on me at all times for basic trouble shooting. The replacement to that is the 324 but I don’t like where you plug in the meter leads on their new meters so I would personally source a used 322 if I was looking for a new meter. Fluke has been rock solid for me the last 12 years that I have been using them. I’ve had too many false readings from other meters to keep trying them and I want to live to go home at the end of the day so I stick with what my experiences have lead me to trust. They don’t have all the bells and whistles that others have but I trust my life to them every day and they are super dependable.
